Rented Dwelling Licensing Scheme

Rented Dwelling Licensing Scheme

Licensing Scheme

Most Landlords of Residential Property in Jersey will be aware that the Government of Jersey implemented the Rented Dwellings Licensing Scheme which came into effect on 1st May 2024 requiring all landlords to have a Renting Dwellings Licence for each unit of residential property that they rent out. There is a transition period for the first 3 months. During this period properties will not need to be inspected for a licence to be issued.

From 1 August 2024, it will be illegal for a landlord to rent without a licence. Infrastructure and Environment may need to inspect the property before granting a licence.

Licences will be attached to the property itself. This means that if a property is sold, the licence will transfer to the new owner.
As a Landlord it is your responsibility to ensure that each unit of accommodation is registered and the requisite licence fee currently (£60) per unit has been paid. The licence fee is valid for two years.
